The Trump Administration’s Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) has ramped up efforts to hold American health organizations accountable for price transparency. After years of crippling price obscurity that has resulted in more illness and poverty among many Americans, CMS issued a series of fines, from 2022 to 2026, against 28 hospitals across the nation for allegedly violating price transparency requirements.
The fines, which included nearly $1M for UF Health North in Jacksonville, Florida, and over $800k for Northside Hospital in Atlanta, among others, are a major step towards shaking up decades of medical monopoly and enrichment and forcing these major health organizations to be accountable for patient care and affordability. At least ten of the fines are still ‘under review,’ meaning that the hospitals appealed the penalties.
Thankfully, CMS is poised to remain vigilant regarding these fines and any additional allegations of violations that impede Americans’ ability to receive high quality, transparent and affordable healthcare.
