Members of healthcare sharing ministries in particular can have trouble with providers who aren’t familiar with the way they work and expect them to work just like traditional health insurance plans. These difficulties are exactly why we place such a heavy emphasis on advocating for our Members. Care Navigation
Many providers either don’t know how healthsharing works, or do not bill reasonable rates for their services. But this is a very difficult thing to know yourself without getting any outside help. This is why our Care Navigation team exists! They are there for you when you are trying to find a provider, schedule a surgery, or get testing done. They have tools to find high quality providers that work well with our program. They are also able to make sure that you get charged fair prices for the care that you receive.
This team routinely saves our Members tens of thousands of dollars on medical procedures just by directing them to different options that have fair prices. They are also able to help you find Preferred Providers, which are providers that have agreements with Solidarity to bill us directly for fair, set prices. This often leads to a much smoother experience at the point of service for our Members. Care Coordination
We also have a Care Coordination team that directly advocates for our Members who are dealing with complicated medical situations. The program is designed to assist Members who are significantly utilizing the healthcare system. It can be hard to stay on top of everything when you are receiving lengthy, specialized care. For instance, Members who need major surgery, are undergoing cancer treatments, require life-affirming care, are pregnant and receiving maternity services, or any complex inpatient hospitalization. Recently, our Care Coordination team was able to advocate for a Member and reduce a $112,000 bill that their provider was pressuring them to pay to just under $18,000.
The Bottom Line
Please remember, if you ever feel like you aren’t sure what to do about a medical situation, or if a provider is pressuring you, give our team a call!
