California Patients Suffering Under the Weight of Healthcare Price Obscurity

In recent months, discussions of healthcare price transparency have been ongoing. Americans are finally waking up to the truth that they are paying excessive prices for necessary care and left in the dark about their best options or pricing until after treatment is concluded.

While the Trump Administration is taking steps to address the problem at the federal level, states across the country have varying approaches. Just recently, California came under fire after a new survey by the California Healthcare Foundation revealed that California residents “worried more about unexpected medical bills than any other expense in 2025—even housing.”

The same survey found that over 66% of Californians reported fears about “affording unexpected healthcare bills.” They have reason to worry. When patients are told that a treatment will cost $4,000 and receive an $80,000 bill in the mail – yes, this happens – American health is truly in crisis.

Solidarity HealthShare emerged to address the ongoing American healthcare challenges so that no American has to forgo care to stay financially afloat. Families and individuals should not have to stress about choosing between critical expenses like food and rent or unforeseen and excessive medical bills.

As a healthsharing ministry, we pride overselves on offering Americans a transparent alternative to traditional health insurance — and one that is over 60% more affordable. We empower our Members by offering comprehensive, affordable care and within a system that supports our Catholic beliefs and never forces members to support controversial medical procedures that conflict with, or outright insult, their faith.
