Care Navigation That Makes a Difference: Amy Hoppenrath’s Story

Member Amy Hoppenrath Shares Her Solidarity Experience

For many, the dream is to retire early and fully enjoy life. For Amy Hoppenrath and her husband, that goal required careful planning and budgeting. Six years ago, they became Members of Solidarity HealthShare. Solidarity’s affordable Membership plans allowed them to retire early while still having coverage for unexpected health events. The benefits of this choice became clear when Amy’s husband underwent open-heart surgery and when Amy required knee surgery.

Not long after, Amy experienced issues with her rotator cuff. An active woman who swims regularly, goes to the gym, and plays pickleball, Amy wasn’t ready to “retire” from her favorite activities. After a round of physical therapy and an MRI, surgery was determined to be the best path back to her healthy lifestyle. Amy reached out to Solidarity’s Care Navigation team, who quickly provided recommendations for 3–4 orthopedists in the Phoenix area. After researching online and consulting friends and colleagues, Amy found the right surgeon. Because her MRI and therapy were already completed, she was able to schedule her procedure promptly.

When the surgery required a hospital with specific equipment, Amy faced a potential source of stress. Instead, she contacted Solidarity’s Care Navigation team again. They coordinated directly with the hospital, negotiated pricing, and ensured a smooth process. After the surgery, the team helped Amy find physical therapy, billing Solidarity directly so she could focus on recovery without worrying about post-surgery costs.

One of the reasons we chose Solidarity is so that we could choose the providers that we wanted to work with. It’s extremely important to be able to find people who I trust and who care and have good bedside manners, and that’s one of the reasons that we really enjoy working with Solidarity.”

“It’s perfect for those people who want to retire early, but say ‘Oh, I can’t because I can’t afford a monthly health insurance payment.'”

For Amy, and thousands of other Members, Solidarity HealthShare makes healthcare ethical, affordable, and truly comprehensive—standing alongside them through life’s most challenging medical events.

We strive to provide an ethical, community-driven alternative to traditional health insurance. Through direct Member-to-Member sharing, Members are able to access quality healthcare services while preserving their family’s financial, physical, and spiritual health, all at once. Members never need to worry about their healthcare dollars funding immoral medical procedures. We promote a holistic approach to healthcare, emphasizing the importance of physical, mental, and spiritual well-being.

At the heart of our ministry’s mission to restore and rebuild an authentically Catholic healthcare culture in America is the recognition that every single person has inherent human dignity. We seek to promote healthcare that honors the sanctity of human life from conception to natural death.
