Delaware Senate Gives Final Approval to Bill Mandating Insurance Coverage For Abortions

Delaware Bill to be Signed Requiring Insurance Coverage for Abortions

Democratic Delaware Gov. John Carney is expected to sign a bill, supported by Democratic lawmakers, that would require most private health insurance programs to provide insurance coverage for abortions. This immoral requirement will also extend to Medicaid programs in the state. The legislation even prohibits many insurance plans, including the plan used by state government employees, from applying deductibles, charging copays, or using cost-sharing methods to pay for the abortions. Instead, state taxpayers will pick up the tab.

Abortions which cost less than $750 per person per year would be covered under the new legislation. Since the average abortion costs about $600, this means that most procedures will qualify for coverage. In fact, Delaware taxpayers will pay a combined $500,000 each year for women covered by Medicaid and the state’s health insurance plan to terminate the lives of their unborn children.

Delaware Pushes for Abortion on Demand

Shockingly, this effort to mandate abortion coverage is part of Democrats’ larger plan to expand access to abortion for any reason up until the very moment of birth. This bill’s reach is so extensive that it will require churches and other religious organizations to apply for exemption to be omitted from these mandates. Otherwise, they would be required to provide insurance coverage for abortions, even though it directly violates their beliefs. People of faith should not have to worry that they are materially contributing to evil with their hard earned healthcare dollars. But that is the reality that Delawareans are facing once this bill is signed into law.

Solidarity HealthShare was founded in large part to protect patients from having to ever pay for abortion services as part of their health plans under the Affordable Care Act and in keeping with their deeply held convictions that every life is worthy of protection. Should Gov. Carney sign this radical bill, patients in Delaware and across the country can rest assured that Solidarity remains a holistic alternative to traditional insurance programs and that by joining our community of likeminded patients, they can receive care from top tier medical professionals who respect life at every stage.
