Couples who struggle with infertility often feel abandoned by the reproductive medicine field, which by-and-large tells them to undergo costly, often unsuccessful, rounds of in vitro fertilization (IVF) treatments to circumvent their underlying health challenges. In Arkansas, couples can breathe a sigh of relief with the passage of the RESTORE Act.
Governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders has signed the “Reproductive Empowerment and Support Through Optimal Restoration RESTORE Act” into law, establishing a framework in the state for couples to have better access to restorative reproductive medicine (RRM) that treats underlying causes of infertility.
Arkansas’ legislation will integrate RRM across the state, which will include the promotion of fertility awareness-based methods, infertility diagnostic procedures, and educational resources aimed at helping couples become parents naturally.
RRM is a series of medical protocols that work to treat the root causes of reproductive dysfunction and infertility, such as conditions like endometriosis, polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS), and thyroid dysfunction. According to a study by the D.C.-based Ethics and Public Policy Center, “rather than treating reproductive or bodily dysfunction in a piecemeal manner, RRM examines the whole body and the multitude of conditions or comorbidities that may contribute to the symptoms patients experience.” The EPPC’s recent report also points out that “while IVF may be successful in producing an embryonic child, it does nothing to address underlying health concerns, nor does it improve reproductive health conditions that can lead to future pregnancy complications.”
At Solidarity HealthShare, we do not share into IVF expenses. We do share in RRM and NaPro technology expenses, which are both ethical, more affordable and more successful alternatives to IVF. Our organization is committed to ensuring that women receive the wholistic care that they deserve to solve the root of all infertility problems, rather than simply putting an ‘IVF Band-Aid’ on them.
