“Today, with fellow Catholics and people of good will around the world, we mourn the loss of Pope Francis. We commend him to Christ’s infinite mercy and pray he rests in peace. And we pray that whoever is chosen to succeed him as head of Christ’s Church on earth will be both courageous and compassionate in proclaiming and defending the many truths under attack today, especially foundational truths about the God-given identity and the priceless value of all human persons from conception until natural death.

Perhaps nowhere do we see the deadly consequences of rejecting these truths more clearly than in healthcare – and the need to renew and reinvigorate our efforts to build an authentic culture of life.”
