Standing for Life and Protecting Our Children’s Health

Last month, Senator Josh Hawley (R-Mo.) introduced the Prohibiting Abortion & Transgender Procedures on the Exchanges Act, a bill that would ban federally subsidized health insurance plans from covering abortion or gender transition procedures for minors. The legislation would also write long-standing Hyde Amendment protections directly into the federal terms of healthcare coverage, ensuring taxpayer dollars are never used to fund abortion except in cases of rape, incest, or when the mother’s life is at risk.

“It’s time to ban abortion and gender-transition procedures for minors on the healthcare exchanges. No more loopholes,” Senator Hawley said when announcing the bill. The measure is supported by Susan B. Anthony Pro-Life America and has been welcomed by countless families and faith-based organizations who believe that healthcare should protect, not harm, the most vulnerable among us.

At Solidarity HealthShare, we agree fully. True healthcare is rooted in compassion, conscience, and a commitment to do no harm. Procedures that end innocent life or irreversibly alter a child’s healthy development have no place in a system meant to heal. The introduction of this bill is a monumental step toward restoring moral clarity and trust to American healthcare.

For too long, families have been forced to navigate a system where their premiums and tax dollars may indirectly fund procedures that violate their faith and conscience. Senator Hawley’s bill addresses that injustice by ensuring families are no longer complicit in practices that undermine human dignity and the sanctity of life.

We are committed to providing a life-affirming alternative to traditional insurance. Our Members know their healthcare dollars go toward helping others access ethical, affordable, and faith-aligned care. Our organization connects families with providers who uphold the sacred value of life from conception to natural death and reject the harmful politics that have overtaken modern medicine.

Protecting children from irreversible harm and reaffirming the sanctity of life are moral imperatives. At Solidarity, we applaud Senator Hawley’s leadership and remain committed to building a healthcare community that honors faith, supports families, and defends the truth that every life is worth protecting.
