Requirements to be a Member of our Health Sharing Ministry
At Solidarity HealthShare, we believe that the human body is a gift from God. It is worthy of care and respect from conception until natural death. This belief that we are stewards of our physical bodies is precisely what informs Solidarity’s approach to comprehensive health care. In fact, those who participate in a health sharing ministry commit themselves to the lifelong pursuit of a healthy lifestyle.
To become a Member of the Solidarity community, each person must follow a few basic tenets of healthy living, including:
- Exercising the virtue of temperance by avoiding excess consumption of food, tobacco, alcohol, and medicine.
- Following Biblical teachings on the use or abuse of alcohol.
- Avoiding the abuse of prescription drugs, which means consuming prescription medications in a manner not intended by the prescriber.
- Abstaining from the use of illegal drugs. See our Sharing Guidelines for what would be considered an illegal drug.
- Intentionally incorporating exercise and good nutrition into one’s daily life.
There are certain pre-existing conditions, which can be improved through lifestyle changes, that qualify a new Member for Solidarity Well. There is an additional monthly fee associated with Solidarity Well until the Member graduates from the program. The Member works with a health coach to improve their health and reduce risk of developing serious, associated health conditions.
How Sharing Works
Solidarity HealthShare is an alternative way to fund health care costs that is ethical, affordable, and comprehensive. The program is also exempt from any Individual Mandate fines of the ACA, whether at the federal or state level.
Members can visit the doctor or hospital of their choice using a Solidarity HealthShare card that they can provide to the health care provider with instructions on how to bill Solidarity. Solidarity determines whether the care provided is eligible for Sharing based on our Sharing Guidelines. Solidarity then negotiates the bill on the Member’s behalf to secure the lowest possible treatment price. All eligible medical bills are then Shared among members through our Virtual Share Exchange, where community Members freely contribute funds to pay the negotiated bill.
Cost of Membership
Members receive holistic health care at a reasonable price. Solidarity keeps costs low for its Members by breaking costs down in the following manner:
- Solidarity Members pay a one-time application fee of $135.
- In addition to this application fee, Members pay a monthly contribution amount depending on the age, family status, and the Annual Unshared Amount chosen by the Member.
- Members are responsible for any medical expenses that go towards their Annual Unshared Amount each year. Once that amount is met, then medical expenses are Shared by the community for the rest of the membership year.
